Howdy 8)
Nope, we won't have several generals, there will be the 3 main factions (US/EU/RF) and from there on, players can "customize" their own faction as he/she progresses through the ranks (by unlocking more specific vehicles/units).
For example, let's say you want to have the Air Power ("Air Force General" power), you will be able to unlock certain planes by using General Points (or by simply "ranking"), then again, you can unlock tanks / special forces / artillery / advanced helicopters / Unmanned Air Vehicles / Unmanned Combat Air Vehicles / etc.
This way you will be able to "create" your own "customized faction" (suited to your taste, or simply to adapt to the changing ingame battlefield situation).
In other words, the Air Force General/Tank General/Infantry General/etc. will be fully replaced so you will be able to create your own customized forces.
By using this unlock system you will be able to create your own customized battle style (and avoid those classic niches like the Infantry General having crappy or not even having tanks / air force general with poor ground performance, etc.)
Note that there will be many vehicles to choose from, so you can't have everything available in a single game, this means you must unlock your units wisely and you will obviously need more points to unlock more advanced units (like the Eurofighter Typhoon, F-22A Raptor, F-35B, etc.)
For the "Naval Mode" (Naval Maps) the situation will be completely changed, the "standard" factions:
- EU Army / Air Force;
- US Army / Air Force;
- RF Ground Forces / Air Force
... will be completely changed into their "Naval Counterparts":
- EU Navy / European Marines / Euro Naval Aviation;
- US Navy / USMC (United States Marine Corps) / Naval Aviation;
- Russian Navy / Russian Landing Forces / Russian Air Force - Naval Arm (Naval Aviation).
And will have unique units like ships and many amphibious landing forces such as the AAVP-7A1 or the EFV:
The Naval Mode will be generally different from the "Standard Mode" (standard land-based maps).

Many thanks , unfortunately we don't have a certain release date at this moment, though we are in fact thinking of releasing a beta version (a "demo") as soon as possible.

ok sounds great but do u know cold war crisis? there u can use that system too but i cant even win from an easy army!!! simply because u can built maybe 10 units in the beginning and no defense structures ...
hope u guys make more units available from the beginning and defense structures(e.g. a bunker...) because in real life a non-protected base simply can't grow to a huge base ^^i was waiting so long for that mod and actually it sux

We'll make sure to have units for both offensive and defensive roles from the beginning (so the casual offensive / defensive player can stick with their favorite strategy).
One of our main priorities is the customization of the player's forces, this means we'll be creating a lot of vehicle upgrades (offensive and defensive) and, of course, integral units with focus on those particular roles.

HOW DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRREEE UUUUUUUU!!!!!!
whadda ya mean CWC sucks!? the reason i've been lookin forward to TAOW so much is because it's lookin to show the same quality and gameplay the CWC offered. the reason easy army is hard to beat is because people got tired of pwning the crap out of the hard ZH enemies. playing CWC on hard is the most fun singleplayer you can have because it's so close to an online match the only difference is the AI doesn't chat 2 u!
im not saying anything like "LOL! j00 suck n00b u gotz pwnzord by easy!!! rofl!" (sorry, couldn't resist ) but i will admit the first time i played CWC the easy AI beat the hell out of me ten times before i beat them, and even then i was too timid to move on to medium! but it's well worth it once you reach hard if u keep at it.
P.S. i know someone's gonna pick me up on the fact that i'm talkin about CWC in a TAOW forum, but these guys put alot in and i think we all know that if someone said TAOW sux that we would all go completley ape-sh**!!!
keep up the good work TAOW team

Re: different generals
F-16FightingFalcon,
I think saying any mod sucks is very bad critisism. it really depends on who likes it. some people like realism, some people like futuristic, and some (like us) take realism to the extreme level. Cold war crisis was and will always be a great mod to those who love realistic or cold war era games. i personally loved it... it was also a good inspiration to taow
Also the art of war will not use buildings or bases
it takes away a part of the realism,

Re: different generals
so if in TAOW there isn't any buildings or bases
you r just gonna depend on para-drops etc..........
cool but how will you command: by a command vehicle or there isn't
PS: Marc Is right it depends on the choise.
Some People like hamburgers
others like pizza!
and other like............ ah u know what i mean

Yup, we are creating a brand new system which will completely remove the standard "base building system", the new units will be ordered by Command Vehicles (there will be various command vehicles, all of them have their own "specifications" and tasks and won't be simple "sitting ducks" behind the frontlines 8) ).
James100 wrote:hehe so "Cold War Crisis" is like ..... evoluting to TAOW in more modern cases
Well we could say that to a certain degree (we are humbled to be compared with such an important mod like CWC ), however there will be many, many differences from one mod to another (in fact, there will be many changes considering all current ZH mods, TAOW will change even the "basics" such as the base building system and the naval mode ).
I personally loved CWC as well, and it's one of the mods which serves as inspiration for TAOW (other examples are: Mideast Crisis, An Act of War, Real War Mod, among several others which were eventually canceled/halted that's why TAOW was created in the first place (as a "response" to the cancellation of those awesome mods which we loved, we kind of consider TAOW as the "spiritual successor" of those fantastic projects, which, unfortunately, "disappeared" in the course of all these years ), we wanted ZH to have an 100%-complete, realistic-based mod (in this case pushing SAGE's - ZH's game engine - to the limit).
One of the most important news that the whole ZH and Command & Conquer modding world ever received was when the CWC team announced the completion of the project .

i probably should be taking this to the off topic section, but oh well.
the AI in CWC absolutley love their infantry rushes with armored support. it took me a while to figure this out, but most people chose their first teir unit as the unit that leads to something later (russia's t-64 leads to t-80uk later on, USA's lil' bird leads to apache) and dont want to waste it on a low-teir one-off item, but the most powerful early ingame weapon would be the IFVs either side can unlock at game-start.
most people would think they'll hold off fine using BRDM variants for russia and humvee variants for USA. but the key is to blow your first gen point on the big IFVs. the Bradley, and the BMP-2, are not only much better at killing infantry, they're better armoured, and when tanks and other vehicles come into play later on, they have their missiles.
the only time you dont have to do this is if you chose for 20,000 credits at the start of the game, in which case you can just grap the t-64 or lil' bird and just SPAMMY SPAMMY SPAMMY!!!

Re: different generals
Damn right!!! I usually pick my strategy depending on the map, one basic move I do from the beginning is to cover the control points as fast and effectively as possible (without getting the forces separated, which would make them cannon fodder).
One critical move is to defend your base with camouflaged units (to compensate for the lack of defenses such as the TOW Bunker or Tank Bunker (or your base gets easily flanked while you're attacking, and that will surely affect your main attack as you get worried to focus on defending the base and attacking the enemy, and the reinforcement lines get cut off).
As you get more and more used to the enemy patterns, you'll eventually may want to be able to play against tougher opponents (I usually play with Hard AI, I specially enjoy 2 vs 2 matches).
About TAOW's AI, we want it to be sneaky, adaptive and specially responsive (the AI will actually respond to your attacks with specialized units).

Re: different generals
btw, the whole IFV strategy i was talking about is actually brand new since the last CWC update took out the inf. bunker and tank bunker as start-game structures, now u gotta wait till second teir to get em along with the aa bunker. it means i've had to bump down the difficulty meter tho . i've gone from pwning hard army with bunkers to just gettin by with IFVs againsed medium army. CURSE THAT UPDATE!!!

Lol, I was also an avid adept of the "defensive-offensive" strategy (always putting defenses all around).
