Dropping the MOAB
hi guys,
i just want to ask if the MOAB(which i assume that it will be included in the mod)
will be dropped by a B2 bomber? Actually it should be dropped by a c-130 because its to big to fit in a bomber...
greetz !!!

Re: Dropping the MOAB
We're not 100% sure at this time, but the MOAB and FOAB might be the new "WMD" alternatives (which might replace the nukes, scuds and particle cannons).
If we're gonna include'em, then they'll be dropped by a heavy bomber (makes it look more dramatic and realistic ).
Obviously, that these weapons would be only included as a "last resort" weapon (in case everything fails, DROP DA BOMB!!! ).
We wanted to include the BLU-82 Daisy Cutter, but since all of'em were used, we may include the MOAB as the US alternative.

Re: Dropping the MOAB
Exactly, actually, the FAB (Fuel-Air Bombs) have many other popular names (such as "Vacuum Bombs"). The main military designation is "Thermobaric Weapon".
TAOW will have several Thermobaric Weapons (used in conventional roles, an example is the Russian TOS-1, basically a big ass thermobaric-launching rocket launcher mounted on the hull of a T-72).
About the Tallboy, we aren't gonna use it (neither the Grand Slam), instead we are thinking of more "cutting-edge" alternatives

Re: Dropping the MOAB
you wont need such huge weapons like nukes. taow is supposed tactical
and u'll have enough weapons trust me, carpet bomb, heavy bombers. firepower will not be an issue

Just like the Tomahawk issue, ZH's carpet bombing can't compare with our new and manly 'C'arpet Bombing

Re: Dropping the MOAB
hehe
euh... about the carpet bomb...
Will we be able to choose whit whic aircraft the carpet bomb will be dilivered, because in some occasions a b-52 is good enough, but in other cases a b-1 or b-2 is required, (stealthy, faster...) if there's is many AA-defense for exemple ?
I guess that the randomizer will do the job , but like i said in some cases it would be more interesting to use the b-2, maybe with more costs then...
And what about the bombs from the carpet bomb .... wil they be Mk 82's with high drag tails like this:
or like that one:

Re: Dropping the MOAB
At this moment I think we are using both
There will be lots of bombers (and fighter/bombers) so there will be a looot of ordnance

Yeah, if you have unlocked the B-2, you are free to use it at will (even without air support), in fact, the B-2 will be quite effective to bomb enemy anti-air fortified areas, if you can't detect targets, I think you'll be able to make the plane "loiter" around the battlefield until either you detect targets to bomb or it automatically leaves due to the lack of fuel.
The European Union and Russia will have some defensive special units particularly suited to detect enemy stealth fighters/bombers at long range (special radars).
Even though there won't be large Anti-Air launch platforms like S-400 or Patriots, there will be some units which will be able to use effective anti-air missiles which are perfect to target "unstealhed" bombers.

Re: Dropping the MOAB
Yeah, I think we are gonna include a special "Hud button" which will allow the player to control the quantity of dropped bombs (a few bombs in several runs for enhanced accuracy or a large and destructive carpet bombing ).
We have to modify the ZH bombers because these wouldn't be so effective in TAOW (specially due to the fact that there aren't any bases now), the classic ZH A-10 or Fuel Air Bomb strikes would be useless (slow aircraft), the moment they dropped the bombs, the enemy would be long gone from that location (moved to another area).

Re: Dropping the MOAB
Bombing with heavy bombers would surely bring a intensity in the game...
For a defensive measures, the player should guard his airspace with his fighter aircraft so that no bees would flying around his units and seeing his units destroyed...
Fighter aircrafts will have a big role for defense and also for a better offensive....
That is 100% awesome!

Re: Dropping the MOAB
Thanks , fighters will be extremely valuable (in fact, fighters will be vital to protect AWACS - Airborne Warning and Control System - aircraft, which will serve as aerial command centers.
For more info on'em please check this post:
https://taow.forumotion.com/member-s-access-f5/stryker-varients-work-in-progress-t138-45.htm#7685
A few hours ago we decided to fully include AWACS to do such duties (the ones numbered on the topic)
Fighters will have an even more important role in the AWACS defense (and attack).

Re: Dropping the MOAB
ahh speaking of carpet bombs, can the carpet bombing be more spread and realistic... you know... more like this:
For a true example of what I mean, take a look at this video from Blitzkrieg II
http://www.moddb.com/mods/the-finest-hour/videos/tutorial-05-strategic-bombing
[just + damage and - the disable effect]

DEFINITELY!
Our Carpet Bombings Will Be As Realistic As Possible, And Not Like Zero Hour Who Just Throw In 9 In A Row
Also They May Be More Than One Type Of Carpet Bombing Run... Such As A High Speed Bombing Run (By The B-1B) Or Stealth Bombing Run (By The B-2A) Etc... You Get The Drift

Re: Dropping the MOAB
yesss!
I hated that about zero hour... they carpet bombs dont even really do that much... just go in the STRAIGHTEST possible line and, for a circular radius icon, it only goes in a straight line which makes no sense... circle radius, line attack. It makes much more sense to have the bombs disperse and do more damage thoroughly! Im excited to see this.

Re: Dropping the MOAB
Indeed, ZH's 'Carpet Bombing' is more like a conventional bombing with a fancy name.
We want to make tactical/heavy bombers more controllable by the player instead of just merely selecting a target, this is due to the fact that TAOW's battlefields will be very mobile and targets may require new target coordinates very regularly. The same also applies for the AC-130U gunship.
